Abhayarishta – Ayurvedic Classical Medicine:
Abhayarishta (Abhayarishtam) is an ayurvedic polyherbal formulation. It contains many herbs but one of the major herb is Abhaya or haritaki. It is sacred to Lord Shiva. In Ayurveda, it is known as the king of medicines. It is used as carminative, antispasmodic, carminative, purgative, antiviral, astringent, hypoglycemic, antibacterial, anti-oxidant, laxative and expectorant properties.

Benefits and uses of Abhayarishta:
According to classical text, Abhayarishta (Abhayarishtam) is indicated in all types of hemorrhoids, all types of abdominal diseases, and constipation and difficult micturition (dysuria). It increases digestive fire and improvement in digestive fire helps proper digestion of food particles, which ultimately reduces toxins accumulation and increases their elimination.
Piles ( Haemorrhoids):
Piles (Haemorrhoids) are the main indication for using Abhayarishta. Abhayarishtam reduces pressure in the lower section of the large intestine, which helps reducing swelling of veins (hemorrhoids). Secondly, the most common cause of piles is constipation. It also works on peristalsis movement, improves bowel movement and removes constipation. In bleeding piles, Abhayarishtam should be used along with Arshogani Vati In non-bleeding piles, it can use be along with kankayan Gutika.
Properties of Abhayarishta:
Abhayarishta (Abhayarishtam) is a great ayurvedic formulation which is known to enrich with fruitful herbs especially, haritaki that contains effective phytochemicals. These play an essential role in defending against various infections. These phytochemicals are protein hydrolytic, gallic acid, B – sitosterol, tannic acid, flavonoids, sterols, resins, fructose, anthraquinones, terpinenes and many more. Due to these phytochemicals herbs are packed with properties such as purgative, antiviral, astringent, hypoglycemic, antioxidant, laxative, expectorant, carminative, antispasmodic and antibacterial. The carminative and antispasmodic properties calm the inner spasm and manage the condition of flatulence and bloating. Abhayarishta also has purgative and astringent properties which are effective to manage the problem of piles and fistula as constipation is further aggravating factor for them. As an astringent, this shrinks piles and enhances its healing power. The property of antioxidants is known to inhibit the oxidation of molecules, hence reduces the production of free radicals. Therefore, these properties combine to manage various disease conditions.
